Overview

What it is

Fractional CO2 lasers deliver energy in a grid of microscopic points. Each point treats a tiny column of skin and leaves the skin around it intact, and the skin’s healing response over the following weeks can help improve the appearance of uneven texture, fine lines, sun damage, enlarged pores and acne scarring. Individual results vary.

We offer two treatments on the Tetra Pro. CoolPeel works on the outer layers of the skin, with around 1–3 days of downtime, and a course of 3–4 sessions is usually recommended. CO2 DOT therapy reaches deeper for more significant concerns, with around 7–10 days of downtime, and usually only one treatment is required. As well as the face, we can treat the neck, décolletage and body.

The Experience

What to expect

  1. 01

    Consultation

We assess your skin, medical history and goals, confirm whether CO2 is suitable for you, and recommend CoolPeel or DOT therapy based on your skin needs, budget and preferred downtime. Possible risks and side effects are discussed before anything is booked.

  2. 02

    Numbing cream

Numbing cream is required and is not included in the treatment price. Compounded anaesthetic creams are a scheduled medication, so yours must be purchased by you under the guidance of a pharmacist. Instructions to purchase it will be provided once your treatment has been booked, and it’s delivered directly to the clinic for your appointment.

  3. 03

    Treatment & recovery

Once the numbing cream has taken effect, the laser is passed over the treatment area. You can expect redness immediately after treatment, a hot sensation, and potentially some swelling. In the initial few days following your treatment you can expect a dry “sandpaper” feel to the skin and some flaking as the skin heals — usually 1–3 days for CoolPeel and 7–10 days for DOT therapy. We’ll give you aftercare instructions to follow at home.

Risks & side effects

All medical and aesthetic treatments carry risks. Possible side effects and risks will be discussed with you before treatment, and your written consent obtained. Individual results may vary. Consultation required to determine eligibility. Read more about treatment risks.

CoolPeel treats the outer layers of the skin, has a shorter recovery, and is usually done as a course of 3–4 sessions. DOT therapy reaches deeper, has a longer recovery, and usually only one treatment is required. Which one suits you is decided at your consultation, based on your skin needs, budget and preferred downtime.

Downtime is usually 1–3 days after CoolPeel and 7–10 days after DOT therapy, with redness and swelling followed by dryness or flaking as the skin heals. We’ll talk you through what to expect for your treatment at your consultation.

A CO2 laser consultation is $50. It comes off the cost of your treatment if you go ahead, and isn’t refunded if you decide not to proceed. Full-face CoolPeel is $690 and full-face CO2 DOT therapy is $1,950. We also treat the neck, décolletage and body; pricing for these depends on the settings used and is confirmed at your consultation. Numbing cream is required and isn’t included in these prices.

Numbing cream is required for CO2 treatments. As per regulatory guidelines, compounded anaesthetic creams are a scheduled medication and should be purchased directly by the patient under the guidance of a pharmacist, and labelled with their individual details. Bulk use of compounded medicines is not permitted in Qld. Instructions to purchase your numbing cream will be provided once your treatment has been booked, and it will be delivered directly to the clinic for your appointment.

Generally, yes. Some skin prep may be required to help keep your treatment safe and reduce the risk of adverse results. This will be discussed during your consultation.

Avoid sun tanning and fake tanning for at least 2 weeks before treatment. Treatment isn’t available if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding. Some skincare actives may need to be stopped beforehand, so please tell us about all the skincare you use at your consultation and your therapist will advise what to stop.
